Support First
Feel is what you notice. Support is what your body relies on.
Support First isn’t a technology — it’s a way to decide. Start with the engineered structure that holds your spine. Then, and only then, choose the feel you enjoy.
We’ve been asking the wrong question
For years, the first question was “Firm, Medium or Plush?”
That only describes surface feel. Support comes from the engineered system underneath. A firmer surface isn’t automatically a better-supported mattress — and a plush mattress can still have exceptional structural support.
The old way
Asks “Do you want it Firm, Medium or Plush?” — a question about surface feel, answered in a few minutes on a showroom floor.
Assumes a firmer surface must mean a better-supported mattress.
More models, more brands, more firmness labels — and choosing only got harder.
Support First
Asks “What is supporting you?” — the engineered system that holds your spine, night after night, for years.
A firmer surface isn’t automatically better supported — and a plush mattress can still have exceptional structural support.
One decision that matters first. Everything else follows from it.
Why feel can be misleading
Feel is a sensation. Support is a function.
The first few minutes on a showroom floor tell you how a surface feels. They tell you very little about how it holds your spine for the years that follow.
The suspension, not the upholstery
Comfort layers are like a car’s upholstery — the first thing you notice. The support system is the suspension. You feel the upholstery in the showroom; you rely on the suspension every day after.
Slippers vs. shoes
Slippers feel wonderful for the first few steps. That immediate softness tells you very little about how your feet will hold up on a long walk.
The last great hotel bed
Think about the best hotel bed you’ve slept on. You weren’t asked to choose Firm, Medium or Plush before checking in. Hospitality mattresses are built to perform across a broad range of guests — one reason a well-engineered, balanced feel can serve more sleepers than traditional mattress marketing suggests.

Hospitality mattresses are designed to perform across a broad range of guests. That’s one reason we believe a well-engineered, balanced feel can serve far more sleepers than traditional mattress marketing suggests — the thinking behind Lylax Universal Feel™.
The support systems
Support First starts here — know exactly what’s holding you up.
Two of these are comfort materials that shape how a mattress feels. The other six are engineered support systems that hold your spine. A mattress made primarily from comfort materials does not automatically provide the same structural support as a named spring system.

01 · Comfort Layer Material
Foam
A comfort-layer material — it shapes surface feel, not the structural core.
Foam shapes how a mattress feels at the surface: cushioning, contouring and the initial softness you notice first. On its own it is not an engineered support system — a mattress built primarily from comfort materials does not automatically provide the same structural support as a named spring system.
Who it suits: Sleepers who want close contouring and motion isolation in the comfort layers, over an engineered support core.

So what actually changes over time?
The surface settles. The real question is what’s underneath.
The surface materials in every mattress naturally settle and respond to years of use. But when a mattress begins to feel genuinely uncomfortable, the question isn’t simply whether it still feels Firm, Medium or Plush. The more important question is whether the structure underneath is still doing its job.
Surface feel is immediate. Structural support works all night.
Most sleepers can become accustomed to a range of surface feels. A different feel, however, cannot compensate for inadequate structural support.
Feel, handled two ways
Once support is decided, the brands differ only in how you choose your feel.
Serta
“Choose your support. Then choose your preferred feel.”
Choose the support first. Then choose the feel you prefer — Firm, Medium or Plush. Feel is your preference; the support architecture stays the foundation. All three feels are the same price, because your feel preference doesn’t change the engineering underneath — only the comfort-layer densities that shape the surface sensation.

“One Universal Feel™ — the feel, decided for you.”
Every Lylax mattress is built around Universal Feel™ — one balanced surface sensation, engineered to suit the widest range of sleepers. One less thing to get wrong.

The words the methodology is built on.
- Feel is what you notice. Support is what your body relies on.
- Firm, Medium and Plush describe how a mattress feels. They don’t describe how well it supports you.
- A firmer mattress isn’t automatically more supportive. A plush mattress isn’t automatically less supportive.
- Surface feel is immediate. Structural support works all night.
- Feel attracts. Support sustains.
- Educate deeply. Decide simply.
